3 large scale ads-When things come toghether its a beauiful thing

This ad by TBW a is a great example of how a bunch of elements both social, political, and just plain fun can come toghether to make something beatuful, not only getting attention for your brand, but also making an interesting social commentary. The music is also perfect.

This ad by BBH, NYC is a beautifully done. The sea of skin gets down to somthing deeper, about vaseline and moisturiing your skin as part of the bigger picture. It is well produced and get the point accross in a beautiful way.

I love this ad by coke, at first if you didn't know any better you might think it is CGI, but there is somthing slightly off about it, and then the payoff and you realize that every stop in the film is an actor or actress holding thier position. Great example of alot of elements coming together.

AMV / BBDO london

This simple billboard, advertisng "kids christmas company" a UK childrens charity, is effective in the picture taken, but it the bilboard is made of glass rather than a picture of the background I think it looses its effect.

R/GA

Love this ad from R/GA uses a pretty shocking image to really get the message that this floss takes no prisoners, when it goes to work in you mouth. Simple great AD

Secret Weapon Marketing

Controversial or risky ads such as this are not surprising from Secret weapon this funny, smart ad for Jack in the box is rightfully controvertial making fun of menapausal women, but it's in good fun so I have no problem with it, although I can't say the same about my mom shhh.

David&Goliath

An effective and different ad for casino, takes a simple quick witted,a nd funny aproach, that is a welcome change from typical VEGAS flare.

Modernista

Great ad for Cadillac by Modernista (alhtough cadillac is byby) the ad expertly melded the copy and naration with the visuals and it has a story line or build up unlike most care commercials.

Mother

Mother's "whats the worst thing that can happen?" campaign is good stuff for Dr. Pepper. I like it becuase it took a risk that paid off, but it wasn't pushing the envelope just becuase it could, it did so in a tastfull funny way. Turning a sistuation everyone can relate to in one way or another an showing it in a funy entertaining way. I also love seeing actors tht are now all over theaters in commercials

Droga5

Funny ad for VB beer, is not dissimilar to other beer ads making fun of girly or sissy things or guys, but what do you expect, its beer.

Taxi

This is an effective ad for Plan B showing a growing embryo emerge and grow a fast rate, scary, but effective combination of science, visual appeal, and truth.

Rethink

Perfect example of the power of simplicity, the image says it all in this print ad for Sirius, and it does so in a hilarious way. Sirius offers somthing for everyone or everything for everyone even cross dressing basketball dunking nuns.

Cramer-Krasselt

These two ads are pretty cool examples of alternative advertising. The dentist fliers beautiful in thier simplicity, they cost almost nothing to make are easily accesible and fun to interact with as you pull the teeth, and get to play dentist yourself.

The speed limit sign made just a small change the standard device that people practically blwo by just for fun and re-phrase is with out telling the driver what to do or ot to do. It is designed to make you think.

Doner

I'm not sure what to think about this ad, at first I thoguht it was good then, then I thought that maybe they should do somthing more addictive, that causes you to leave your financial well being freinds and family. It looks like he is smoking a cigarett, cigar, or blunt none of which are known for life destroying abilitities. Perhaps I am over thinking it though.

Richards Group

Advertising Agency: The Richards Group
Creative Directors: Stan Richards, Glenn Dady
Art Director: Kiran Koshy
Copywriter: Jack Westerholt
Agency Producer: J.R. Dixon

Many of you may remeber this ad from the 2009 superbowl,I like it because it fun, shows the product attriutes (stopping power), and hits home with just about everyone, whether you have been the squabling coulple or just love Mr. Potato head.

Bartle Bogle Hegarty

The "Gamekillers" campaign that BBH created for Axe is awesome, and it has inspired just bout every other brand of deoderant and body wash to follow suit, with other funny campaigns. What sets this campaign apart from everythign else is how they integrated it perfectly into their target audience, 18-24 year old men's lives, through multiple forms of media MTV, online and viral, its awesome. Howver it would not be sucessful if there were not a good amount of truth to it. Most guys can relate to the the guy whos game is being killed. When humor truth and executuion come toghether that is what makes a trully memorable campaign.

Weiden + Kennedy

Fail Harder this video sums up what W+K and its clients represent they are never afraid to take risks or go for the impossible

I like what W+k is doing with thier old spice campaign, maybe thats becuase I have been wearing old spice since I started wearing deoporant, or perhaps its because it appeals more to guys who don't necessarily want to douse themselves in deodorant with the hope of attracting girls. don't get me wrong I like Axe commercials, I but the Old spice commercials are a more clever and manly alternative. The CW is funny and quick as well, while alwasy keeping that W+K differnce.

Dentsu

I love this commercial from Dentsu, its just fun and global, and surprisingly an emotional rollercoaster. The music fits well with it as well, and it is obviosly show casing that the chocolate is worth savouring.

This Toyota commercial is different longer format, and likens the car to a moving chair, which it is. It has a very artistic European feel , that I ersonallly like, and what it says to me is that its not about the car its about where you go in it and who you meet along the way.

Kirshenbaum Bond

This ad is terrible, what is with Kirshenbaum Bond and terrible musci videos, I mean the Frosty one was some what funny but, got annoyin greal fast. this video for the casino was jsut plain terribel.

Cliff Freeman & Partners

A great example of non-traditional outdoor advertising that is also socially resposible. This ad for trojan condoms that educates about the dangers of aids, initially does not look like an aids or trajan ad, but peaks viewers curiosity, they are then surprised and further intrigued when the discover what it is for. Effective ad that does somthing good.

VirtoRobertson

This is a fun print ad for the NY City marathon and ascics, the image says it all and lets the viewer make what they want out of it, which is what makes it so appealing. Athletic advertising is at its best when it lets the viewer take the content and interpret it however they chose, just as they would on the track court or field.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky

CP+B did a great job with this ad advertising Burgerking's chicken fries, it is like a mockumentary, making fun of Nascar pit crews. Its hilarious and well done, great direction and screen writing.

McKinney

Campaign for a Drug Free America, are effective especially for younger kids because they uses fairly simple and in your face annalogies to show that doing drugs or specifically cocain is like taking poison. It does so without flat our telling kids just say no but rather it lets them decide. Its a good exampel fo socially responsible advertising.

Euro RSCG

This print ad for lactose free milk has great art direction that is visually eye catching and simple, and helps make the product feel more natural or real.

Arnold Worlwide

This bubble boy ad for VW is a great ad, breaking the trend of terrible run of the mill car commercials, depicting a worker drone living the life of a bubble boy in his office building cubicle, until one day he gets to feel the wind in his hair, though provoking, relatable, funny, and effectivly showcase the car. Nice

Team One Advertising

I chose this ad by Team One because you rarely see long copy advertising anymore, people are preoccupied and busy with mobile devices and everything else comming at them every second of the day, but this ad is cool because it uses smart, well written long copy, with a easy to understand art direction or symbole allowing it to appeal both types of consumers.

Kaplan Thaler Group

These ads for Trojan condoms are great in my opinion, well made, and although a bit risque and provocative they effectivly portray a message about the importance of using protection because you never know what someone may be doing. It was banned by both fox and cbs, which is fine, becuase it undoubtably got added press and hype and as a conodom brand it should always push the envelope.

Fallon Worldwide

A screen shot of a website for Brawney Paper towles is a great because it is a new approach the formulaic, boring, comparision, etc based advertisign typical for cleaning products and paper towles. The site features episodes or videos of the Brawny academy, which not only helps garner online traffic, but is perfect for women who typically purchase the paper towles and are the most active video sharing population segment.

Leo Burnett

Leo Burnett did a great job on this print ad for investimentos, it artistically depicts variosu symbols of US democracy and trade, and has amy subtle nuance. The tag, "Don't be lost in the weird world of investments." fits well with wierd sureal images depicting everything from uncle sam to osama bin Laden. It is powerful and risky political commentary, but it does so in an artisitic and thoguht provoking way.

Saatchi & Saatchi

One of a series of print ads for Miller Brewing Co. by Saatchi & Saatchi NY, they are funny although maybe a bit too goofy, or dumb. They feel as though they are trying to hard, or perhaps it is that they insinuate that men who drink Miller have trouble with these problems, which Highlife innovations are designed to prevent. budlight had similar campaign later on with their tail gate essentials, and real men of genious. Overall the campaign is not that innovative in my book althogu I saw it in the one show.

Publicis

I love finding car commercials that, aren't car commercials. This is a great ad from Publicis Dallas, starting out you have no idea its a car commercial ad no dramatic music, hugging tight corners, or reving engines, just an intersting story line and innovative use of the car in a differnt way. It portrays the car as a memeber of the family, or always there when you need it no matter what for.

T.A.G. SF

Gotta love video game ads that don't resort to using game clips and footage/ simply rely on cool graphics and gore to advertise to thier target market. This ad for Halo 3 is different and effective, using a quick intersting story line, and not game footage is very effective and one of the contributing factors in why it was one of the best selling video games ever.

Campbell Mithun

This is a great print ad for Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. It what print advertising is supposed to be simple, quick, thought provoking, and surprising. It combines boxing a manley violent sport with a female cancer that has touched affected just about everyone directly or indirectly. It shows is inspiring showing the bravery and courage of cancer survivors and fighters and makes the viewer want to jump in the ring too.

Mullen

Ehhh overall, Mullen is okay there work was not all that inspiring, and thier 7 modes of the mind methodology feels like a bunch of jargon and ad speak that would appeal to business minded inividuals not creative, revolutionary, ground breaking work, although I see the need for it, I think it needs to be used in a less restricted more creative an risky setting.

This ad for the Four Seasons is nothing special featuring two page spread one outside the room adventures with decent yet staged photography a on hotel shot giving a homey feel. I'm sure it is exactly the calulated, formulaic, approach that thier client wanted.

Deutsch

This ad for Snapple claiming this stuff is better than the rest, is in my opinion very effective. The ad is partially poking fun of the claim game beign played by natural fruit and tea beverages, in which each claims various benifits from freshness, to taste, to vitamins etc, Snapple just gets to the point in a funny, new way that peaks the consumers interest and will most likley lead to a trail.

Hill Holliday

This alternative advertising for Dunkin Doughnuts is effective, funny, and "artistic" or atleast somthing you sit and look at, maybe becuase its in a fountain. This is only a small part of a larger multi faceted campaign run by Hill Holiday, that spanned just about every media out there, as many campaigns are these days.

Carmichael Lynch

I really like this ad for Rapala, finally a different type of fishing lure commercial. It makes and interesting an effective connection between a highspeed chase and fishing and does so in an entertaining format that will certainly appeal to Bass masters adn Cops fans everwhere, while still show casing the product and its benifits.

Lowe

This ad entitled polarized by Lowe for the well known deodorant body spray Axe well done becuase it although it still uses the all powerful sex appeal and scantily clad women to advertise axe to horney teens, it does so in a more attention grabbing and responsible way. The ad is cut off in the sun "polarized" showcasing on the products in the bottom half, leaving little boys eyes wish nothing to peruse, but once night falls the bottom comes off and the seduction begins. Simple effective, slightly more responsible..slightly.

DraftFCB

This is a well done ad targeting drunk drivers, it doesn't use the often ineffective scare tactics but rather takes advantage of human nature or emotions to let the drunk driver or occasional drunk driver to feel in thier gut that maybe they should think a second before getting behind the wheel. The placement is also strategic with bright spot lights and low eye level placement allowing struggling drivers to see it but hopefully not crash.

TM Advertising

A different and intersting paint ad by Dallas's very own TM, it takes the standard everytday boring paint ad and spills it over the city streets. Its a different new take on billboard ads or paint ads in general. Bravo TM.

The Martin Agency

Great non-traditional ad for bras, use fo headlight and change between day and night, is pretty funny and effective, I am curious as to whether women also find it funny?

McCann Erickson

This is a cool print ad for European Football league. It's not easy advertising a sport like football in a region as crazy about soccer as the UK, but this ad does so in a funny and creative way. However I am curious whether or not a die hard soccer fan would take offense to this ad? The Pepsi coke dilema?

Grey

I felt obligated to put in the E Trade Babies for Grey, these ads were entertaining at first however I am getting pretty sick of them, talking babies can only be so funny, unless the CW is really clever which it isn't

JWT

This ad for Swedish fish reads a friend you can eat. I think it is a simple funny, and effective ad for the fun endeering swedish fish. It feels appropriate for the brand and the kitty sandwich is funny cute whats not to love.

Y&R

This ad is from Young and Rubicam Singapore and althoguh verging on inapropriate, Ilove it. It's funny using crude humor that will appeal to its target group, but it uses crude humor in a intereting way that makes do a double take. I also like mustaches.

Ogilvy & Mather

This is a cool alternative ad from Ogilvy and Mather, using a heat sentsitive paint to illustrate a point, it is also visible and appropriat to the audience. Furthermore it is a socially responsible ad, because it is doing work for the UN.

Martin I Williams

I like this print ad from Martin Williams, its simple and leaves the does not slap the consumer in the face with the message giving them the satisfaction of determining what it means to them.

LatinWorks

src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P3kw7cRz4Ek" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344">

This Starburst ad, involving one of the Latin American spokes animals the llama is enjoying a starburst. It has the typical eccentric goofy feel that i love about chiat days work with skittles and starburst.

Dieste Harmel & Partners

Dalla's own hispanic agency showcased the issue of eating disorders and annorexia with this it helps viewers understand what it is like to suffer from these issues.

GSD&M Idea City

This BMW commercial not only showcases the car in an innovative new and creative way, by moving the paint soaked car across the canvas it is beautiful way to show how driving is a form of expression. Its visually appealing, and is simplicity of the ad speaks for itself. And lets people enjoy the car and the joy of driving. Its refreshing interpretation on driving and is different than the run of the mill standard car commercial.

180 Amsterdam/180 LA

I like these ads for 180's top client Addidas, I'm a huge fan of using cool different mediums to create print ads, the use of mud in these showcases the brand in a eye catching new way.

Goodby Silverstein

This ad for the NBA, is a great example of the power of simplicity, the images speak for themselves, just as players actions speak louder than their personas. The ad allows the viewer to fill in the blank at the end with the line, "where ____ happens", its great because you never know what is going to happen.

TBWA

This is a thought provoking commercial from TBWA for the United Nations. It's simplicity allows people to really take in the ad and think, it shows global issues in a simple easy to comprehend way using beautiful and at times painful images to grab the viewers attention. Great Job.

DDB

This ad is from the London Office, which is known for its great work, and this commercial doesn't dissapoint. The Monopoly ad showcases a game that has been around awhile in an interesting, and different new way. The longer format ad, and modern take on a classic game is a good strategy and revitalizes the game in the eyes of many players who may have forgoten about it. I have heard rumors of a Monopoly movie being made for theaters right now, I wonder if this will have anything to do with it.

BBDO

THIS Ad example of alternative advertising from BBDO, was a fun and refreshing change from what one typically sees from the larger agencies and brands such as gilet for that matter. It works, is easy to understand and appeals to male hockey lovers and figure skaters for that matter everywhere.

Super Bowl Commercials: Best and Worst

BEST

This Dorito's ad was just plain funny, and it was a consumer generated ad which is pretty awesome that an ad for a spot as expensive as teh Super bowl was consumer generated.

I also really liked the google paris ad, becuase it was not you standard superbowl commercial, furthermore it had been online for while before. A factor in the ads I choose is what differentiates them form past years becuase over the ads for 2010 were pretty weak.

Finally I enjoyed the Slug Bug commercial, becuase it was entertaining and funny as a super bowl commercial should be. More importantly I related to it, the puch buggy game is a childhood favorite of just about everyone, and for what ever reason I seemed to have forgotten about it. The combination fo humor and personal connection made this ad for me.

WORST

Yet another terrible go Daddy Commercial that makes everyone cringe in there seats or make an excuse to go get more chips, they probobly could have dropped the opening scene of just about any porn in this and it would have been just as good.

I like Charles Barkely as a Rockets fan, but he is such a terrible actor, combine that with an embarassingly weak concept and lousy humor and you have a spot worthy of one of the three worst commercials.

From first to last doritos covered all of its bases this superbowl, with this casket themed consumer generated ad, I jsut didn't find it that amusing, plus it is done in poor taste, church funeral, casket, doritos, do not equal a good commercial in my book.

src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xqReTDJSdhE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344">

I completly forgot about this commercial staring Tim Tebow, I am not a fan.

The agency that did the best I would say is the consumer/ in house agencies, sucha s google adn doritos, however if I had to pick one ts would be Deutsch for the slug bug ad.

I was most disapointed with DDB for the Bud ads this year once again, they were mediocre to say the least and might as well have been aired on Monday late night talk show.

Art in Advertising

This is a print ad for Ray-ban sunglasses, by Cutwater, it is Andy Worhol esque with the bright colors and artisitic composition. The ad is also for an iconic brand, and style, and is an intersting example of how advertising can both imitate art and be art at the same time.

This ad from Ogilvy & Mather Thailand, is a simple and more or less irrefutable example fo advertising as art. The combination of a painful, yet beatuiful photography, is not only effective advertising by making people aware of the issues currently facing today forests, but it a moving piece on its own being just as at home in an art gallery as on a billboard.

I love this ad for Sony Bravia by Fallon, even though it is controversial becuase they most likley stole the idea from a couple of up and comings. It is such a powerful example of advertising as art becuase even if it had absolutly nothing to with a product I would be just as moved. The moving combination of music, claymation on a huge scale in an unpredictable urban environment is very powerful, and visually stunning.

This ad for Coke by wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam is another ad that is powerful on its own, this ad masterfully used computer animation rather than clay to creat an alternate reality and story behind the product. Its extrmely imaginative and inspires childlike curiousity. It is also powerful becuase it is new and different and will undoubtly inspire other similar works.
